Simple Things

I am still working on my Block of the Month projects whenever I can but have not completed much this week.  I hope to check out how the others participating in Rehab at the Pink Pincushion are coming along.

This block is the February Block from Aurifil Threads Designer of the Month series.  I put the finishing touches on this block this weekend.

A month or so back we took our pictures off the wall, painted and did not put many things back up.  Some of my blogging friends encouraged me to get some things back up on the wall.  I have thought about it but have not taken any action.  Today I hung two bird pictures on the left of the window to match the two that were already hanging on the right side.  That simple project was therapy for me, I guess because I was motivated to do a little more

The little more meant moving a few little birds around the house so that they can spend a little time in a new space.  It gives us all another view of things.

The best part is that after doing a little shuffling of decor I was motivated.  I have washed all slipcovers, throw covers, pillow covers and anything else I could find.  The throw rugs on the floor come next.

Mystery Quilt

I am joining in with others to make a Mystery Quilt.  This project is hosted by Heather Spence DesignsIt will cost you $10 to participate and all of the money will be given to a cancer patient to help with medical expenses.
A Mystery Quilt is a quilt project in which you do not know what the quilt looks like.  That is the mystery!

I have signed up and been given a list of how much fabric will be needed.  I headed to my favorite quilt shop, Fabric Chicks in Coupeville and Melanie helped me pick out my fabrics.

The fabrics below are what I have chosen for my mystery quilt.

It is not too late to join in.  Visit Heather here to read about the Spring Mystery Quilt.

Long Forgotten Block of the Month

I have posted a few times about the progress on my Block of the Month projects and after seeing someone's "A Tisket a Tasket" blocks who whas participating in BOM Rehab I decided to dig mine out of the drawer and get back at it.  As I was looking through the drawer I found this project The Flower Garden Quilt.

My first thought upon finding this was that it must be a least 5 years since I received these blocks in the mail each month from Newport Quilt.  I had intended to do each block as they arrived.  After looking at the postmark on the envelopes these blocks are still in I see that I have had these since 2002.  If I can be motivated to get these fun blocks completed I will know that this BOM Rehab has been great for me.  I think this will definitely be a May for Me project.

Block one done, this was a fun block to make and I know that the others will be great too.

When I purchased these blocks I also bought the watercolor packet of fabric for the pieced shashing around the blocks.

Block 2 The Pansy Block - cutting has begun.
I am really excited about getting this done,  come back and check on my progress, if you don't see new blocks feel free to ask me how it's coming.  I don't want this to disappear again.

Our New Little Blessing

I had planned to post pictures of the Block of the Month projects I have been working on but that will have to be my next post.  Something happened that was much more important and exciting.  At 2:30AM we received a phone call from Matthew telling us that he and Cammie were heading to the hospital, it was time for little Mollie Lynn to be born.  I had the privilege to be there when our 12th grandchild was born at 10:43AM.  We are so thankful for this sweet new little one.

Cammie was giving Matt a back rub while she had a break from contractions.

Most of the pictures I took today were on Matt and Cammie's camera but of those I took with mine, this is one of my favorites.  There is so much joy after the pain.

Block of the Month Rehab - Another Update

I have been working to catch up on some of the Block of the Month projects that have been started or have been waiting to be started.  I am trying to avoid being drawn in on any new projects which anyone who likes Block of the Month projects knows is very hard to do.  Only one block was completed this week but I have to say it was a fun block to work on.

This is the January Aurifil Thread Designer of the Month block.
Just one more to complete and I will be caught up until the April block comes out.
Oh, I think it's time to visit Michelle at The Raspberry Rabbits and get the new Harrington and Hannah block.  I better get hopping.

I will be linking up with others who have joined in with BOM Rehab at Pink Pincushion.  Visit and see who has completed more blocks this week, you are sure to be inspired.

It's May For Me BINGO!

I just completed my bingo card for May For Me.  If you haven't heard about this and want to join in there is still time, but hurry.  I am sharing my picture of my card and a list of what is in each column.

I -  bee, apple, sun, dog, duckling
N - ladybug, strawberry, free space, mushroom, airplane
G - fish, turtle, peas, toaster, lizard

This was quick and fun to make, I used some charms from an I Spy charm square swap and some scraps from my scrap basket.  We will use buttons to mark our squares and there are prizes too.  If you want to join in on the May For Me event visit one of the blogs below and learn more.  If you don't want to play BINGO you can still join in on May for Me.  Marcia's post here will tell you more about May for Me.   She says in this post "Minutes for you - Learning to take time to play even if it is only for 5 minutes a day."   I also have a May for Me button on my sidebar.

Sweet New Bird and Giveaway Winner

I have a sweet new bird that came to live at our house.  It traveled here all the way from Wisconsin along with some Birthday cards from our daughter and her family.

I think this little bird looks pretty happy in its new home.

Now I want to let you know who won my giveaway.

I waited until last evening to pick a winner for my Birthday Giveaway.  I had 25 comments and used Random.org to pick the winner.  I have seen people post actual pictures from Random.org but I was only able to copy and paste the numbers.  Someday I'll learn how to do this.

Block of the Month Rehab Continued

I have been working to keep at my Blocks of the Month projects.  Two more blocks completed this week.
I will be visiting Pink Pincushion to see the blocks others who have joined in this rehab have completed.

Aurifil Designer of the Month April block designed by Gail Pan.
When I printed this block design out it was smaller than it should have been and of course I didn't notice until I had completed the embroidery.  I decided to just extend a few vines and stems instead of doing it over.

Pink Is Such A Pretty Color

I walked around my house and yard and asked myself, "What colors do you see?"  I see tan, brown, yellow, blue inside, and lots of green and tan outside.  One color that I did not see much of was  pink.  Pink is really a lovely color and I decided that I want to see a little more here in our home.  The best way to do that is to use pink in one of the guest rooms, both need a redo.  We do have four granddaughters with two more due to arrive very soon we'll have to have a "girls" room.

I was able to find a little pink around here so I thought I would share my touches of pink with you, after all it is Pink Saturday at How Sweet the Sound.

Hellebore plant in my garden.

They bend down so I put my camera underneath and clicked a few dozen times to see what I could see.

This sweet little bunny with pink ears and nose sits on a bench near a lavender basket of rosebuds.

Primroses, so bright, though surrounded by weeds and mole hills.

The last of my birthday cupcakes with a swirl of pink frosting.

I do have pink flowers in my valance made with hand towels in my sewing room.

Pink ribbon on an antique pin cushion.

This pretty box holds special little notes from friends and family.

Oh, I must finish the little pink hair bands for our soon to be born granddaughters.

I just bought this pink and green fabric which I have plans for.

This fun pink bag holds most of my embroidery floss.  This was a gift from Melanie, the sponsor of the sewing retreat I went to in February.  One of the ladies there machine embroidered my name on it.

Oh, and I love these sweet pink salt and pepper shakers made by two of my sweet granddaughters.

I hope you have a wonderful Saturday!
