Snapshots Quilt Complete

We spent a few days at the beach and some quiet time in the house while it rained pretty hard.  We spent our time watching movies, enjoying the fire, working a puzzle and of course a little sewing,  I stitched the binding on by machine and finished the hand sewing while watching Murdoch Mysteries.  My Snapshots quilt is complete.  I just need to soften it up in the washer and put it to use.

Sewing was not the only therapy I had while at Ocean Shores.  I was able to spend a little time enjoying the beach.

I was also able to get a little fabric therapy.  I stopped by Beach Thyme Quilts and picked up a few fat quarters and a Hansel and Gretel Panel.

2017 Fun - The Cookbook Quilt Along

I have decided to join in on a few block of the month and quilt along projects this year.  I will share them all with you soon but first I will share my blocks for The Cookbook Quilt Along.  When I read about The Cookbook Quilt Along I though I might try to follow along.  I checked out the book from the library to see if I thought it would be something that would work for me.  After looking through the book and reading Amy Gibson's blog post about the quilt along I decided to give it a try.  Each week Amy Gibson, the author of the book, shares a tutorial on her blog to help with putting your blocks together.   

I gathered the Denise Schmidt fabrics I had collected over time at Joann fabrics, washed and pressed them and I was ready to go.

It is time to start block 4, Amy's blog post is here. I don't think I will be able to get to it right away.

I have enjoyed making these block and using these fabrics so far.  I am not certain about my fabric combinations, especially in block 1.  I will just keep at it and see how far I can go.  I will remind myself to enjoy the process and to keep learning new things with each block.  I will not fail if I don't complete every block in the book.  Happy Stitching!

Reading Pillows for Christmas

I really love to make gifts for people and sometimes I find something fun to make for all of my grandchildren for Christmas.  This year I was having trouble coming up with an idea.

And then I was reminded that I saw this tutorial at The Polka Dot Chair and made a decision that this is what I would be making for our grandchildren for Christmas.

I managed to make ten reading pillows this year.  It was so much fun and I have a few more to make throughout the year ahead.

I added their names with simple embroidery on my machine and machine appliqued something I cut out from the fabrics.

Many of the books were purchased at a library book sale held conveniently at my place of work.

The kids were pretty excited to receive their pillows and books.

I had the chance to sew all of these fun pillows while spending a few days at the ocean on a cold and wet weekend, which was an added bonus for me.

It is great to be able to use ideas shared by others to create something fun.  Thank you Melissa at The Polka Dot Chair for sharing this project.  I should start thinking about next years project  but for now I do have a few more pillows to make.

2017 UFO's - Just for Fun!

I have created a list of UFO's again this year but have not limited myself to working on these alone.  I just think it will be great to mark things off my list.  This also helps motivate me to take the time to get things organized and know where these projects are.  I used the allpeoplequilt list again this year and I will link up each month with Elm Street Quilts, One Monthly Goal.  I have a One Monthly Goal button on my sidebar.

Allpeoplequilt.com has a list you can print and fill in.  Each month a number is chosen and that will be the project you focus on.  I think I completed 7 of the 12 last year.  This month is number 6 which I am excited about because I plan to finish my Snapshots quilt.  It is pieced, quilted and ready for binding.  I love sewing the binding but sometimes I need a little push.

This quilt was fun to put together.  I remember doing all of the cutting for the blocks while down at the ocean on a relaxing weekend.  This quilt is one we plan to keep, so far, and I have a feeling that it will be used at the house by the beach.

The quilting Kathy did is perfect!  I want to start on the binding now.

Last Finish for 2016

I started out the year making plans to complete many projects and to try to start just a few new ones.  This UFO Challenge from allpeoplequilt's was a good source of inspiration.  I filled out the list at the beginning of the year and each month checked the website to see which number had been chosen.  I did pretty well keeping up for the first few months.  My progress was slowing down in the summer and came to a stop in the fall.  As I look at this picture I noticed that I did not note that I did complete my August project, my Adornit quilt top.  Front and back are complete and waiting to be quilted.

I am excited that I was able to get back to a project just after Christmas, number 8 on my list and I have now completed my "Vintage" quilt from the Simply Retro book by Camille Roskelley.

This quilt was really fun to put together and I think this is one I will have to try again.  If I fill in my Adornit quilt top finish on my list I will have completed 7 out of 12.  Looking at the rest of the items on the list, I will have to transfer them to my 2017 finish goals.
