Fabulous Needlework Design Finds

I don't get the chance to stop at a Goodwill store too often but I did find some fun things last week.   I have always loved Crabapple Hill embroidery patterns and have purchased several over the past few years.  I was looking in the fabric, yarn, patterns and notions section at a local Goodwill and found these patterns.  They have not been used but I intend to make good use of them.

They each had a sticker on them that said $1.99, I took the patterns out of the plastic to get a somewhat better picture.

I also found the cross stitch design below for 99 cents

I love this Bird Brain Designs  embroidery pattern, which was also $1.99

The eyelet trim below was 99 cents .

It is fun when you find such treasures when you have 15 minutes for thrift store shopping.

Goodwill Finds

It has been a while since my last visit to a thrift shop.  I decided to pop in to one of our local Goodwill stores the other day.  I took a quick look at the dishes isle and then headed for the fabric and linens isle.
I was excited to find some patterns, and little bags of bias tape, lace, seam binding and buttons.

Look at all of that fun stuff, I love the yellow ric rac.

I have always like Crab.apple Hill designs and have made a few.  I was excited to find these three and two other great patterns for 99 cents each.

Mini clothespins for 50 cents and 2 crocheted potholders 99 cents.

Total 13 dollars, well worth every penny to me.

Fun Finds at Goodwill and a "New" Island

I haven't written lately about the fun things I bought at my last visit to Goodwill.  I stopped by there some time before going to California for my nieces wedding.  I did take pictures right away so that I wouldn't forget share what I found.

Here it is all together

8 plates to add to the dishes I bought a Goodwill a couple of months ago, pictured here.
They cost $4.99

The remaining items had pink tags so all were half off,
pottery $1.50

Tablecloth, long oval, perfect for my table was $3.50 and napkins $1.50

Two fall colored place mats $1.00
Total cost for all the fun things I found, about $12.00
I just noticed that my new refrigerator is in this picture, I just love it!

Now I want to show you what my husband found on Craigslist.  We had been looking for an island for our kitchen, something with more workspace and storage space than the tiny one we had.  My husband found this perfect island after persistently searching Craigslist for less than 1/3rd of the cost of many we had been thinking about.  We are very happy with it.

We will be doing some thinking about how we will transform it to match the rest of our kitchen but in the mean time we are making good use of it.  I think we might wrap it in bead board and paint it.

Our cabinets are in need of paint also so we will have to do some planning.  We have also talked about needing a new sink and faucet.  It could go on and on.

I do want to let you know that we are very content with our kitchen as it is so we won't be rushing out to spend lots of money, actually we don't have lots of money so that won't be happening.  It will be fun to keep plugging away and fix things up as we can.  I am glad that my husband likes searching Craigslist, I will stick with Goodwill, and we'll work together to make our home special with thrifty finds.

New Blue and White Dishes

My Husband had a Birthday last week and I thought it would be the perfect time to use the new dishes I bought at one of my favorite Goodwill Stores nearby.  I am trying to find some bright colored dishes to add a little color to our table, but here we are again with blue and white.  This was one set I could not pass up, I am sure you will agree.

First I'll share the napkin rings $1.50 Goodwill
Tablecloth and 8 napkins, $3.00 Garage sale
Blue and White "Garlic Keeper" $2.00 Goodwill

The pattern is Churchill - Finlandia
Made in Staffordshire England
I purchased 4 cups and saucers for $1.99 each at Goodwill

Also found 6 plates for $6.99 for all.

The table setting was simple but we enjoyed good food and fellowship with some dear friends and I love the new dishes.

Garage Sale Fun

Saturday Morning

Sleep in late

Have a cup of coffee

Go out for breakfast

Go to a few garage sales with my husband
Now that is a great and relaxing morning.

The fact that we found some great bargains at the garage sales made the morning a little sweeter.

Look at the things we found

If you love vintage linen like I do you will appreciate some of the things I found
The two picture frames on the left have already been used for a project I'll show you in another post.
All of the linens, the frames, and the wooden item (not sure what it is) came to a total of $17

Six hand embroidered napkins

The tablecloth on the left is beautifully embroidered and pretty large.

I am always drawn to embroidery with blue in the design

This pictures shows a large plain white tablecloth, a chenille bedspread and butterfly embroidered dresser cloth and a small embroidered hand towel.

Another look at the same items

Light up light house for my husband, he has a few in his office - $3
It is a lighthouse on Whidbey Island not  too far from here.

Snowflake tablecloth $2.50

Two snowflake wreath hangers $1
(Maybe I should paint them white, we'll see)

This is the item I am not sure what it is, maybe you know.
I asked what the lady who sold it used it for and she explained.  We will have to think on this a while
Cost $2

Now I just realized that I didn't take pictures of the wonderful finds my husband brought home.
He found himself a new weedwacker and that nylon string stuff to go with it.  He said that the parts were interchangeable with his old one and for $10 he couldn't go wrong.
All in all we were thrifty shoppers and had a good time together
You sure can't beat that!

Thrifty Treasures

I have been reading blogs for about a year now and have been amazed at some of the treasures people find at garage sales and thrift stores.  I have found quite a few in great deals in times past but it has been a while since I made a great find.  Friday morning, everything changed.  My husband called me to tell me about a moving sale not far from our house that I should stop at.  So on my way to church to see the closing of VBS I stopped and this is what I found.
8 pillows, in great shape, $2 a piece (the one hiding behind the others is green toile on one side and chenille on the other)

Hooked rug, in need of cleaning, (I already cleaned it) $5

Footstool, never used $10

Two hinged wooden boxes $1 each (it will be fun decorating these)

Lamp and shade, great condition $5

Shabby chic terrarium box $4

storage box/table $2
We already had the dog

I will have to do a little repair work on the outside of top

five yellow and one green bowl $3

The footstool found a new home immediately,  I will probably trade it with the one in the bedroom when I do my living room redo.

I will try to post pictures of these items in their new homes, if they stay here in our home.  We bought a few garden tools and a ladder that I didn't take pictures of.  The total cost of the things I showed you was $47.  That was a fun moving sale!
