This is the time of year around our area for garden tours and lavender festivals. With our schedule so far this summer I have not been able to attend anything like that. I decided to take a look at how the lavender was doing in our back garden. It is a little late blooming this year but I took my basket and this is what I found.
Just a little so far ready to cut. Cutting the lavender flowers was therapy for me.
I love the scent and look of lavender.
It makes me think of simpler times.
These are words to a song from the Cumberland Clark Flower Song Book 1929
"Lavender, sweet lavender:
come and buy my lavender,
hide it in your trousseau, lady fair.
Let its lovely fragrance flow
over you from head to toe,
lighting on your eyes, your cheek, your hair"
I will often make lavender wands to use around the house all year.
I don't have time today so I lay it out on the table.
Tie it with cream and green ribbon.
I hang it in my creative space to dry.
It smells and looks wonderful!
Big fan of lavender and you!! Love your creative space and all the ideas you share!!

How wonderful to have it right it in your own yard. I bought a container of dried lavender from Pottery Barn so I could make sachets. Wish I would have bought more at the time. Around here, you never know if you will find something again after you buy it the first time. :/ Have a great week. Tammy
ReplyDeleteWOW!!! I have tried and tried to grow lavender here, it just dies!!!! I know it's possible, there is a lavender farm not too far from here. I've tried everything it says to do on the internet? Well, yours is so pretty!!!
ReplyDeleteLavender is one of my favorites too. Your lavender bunches look lovely and I can imagine how wonderful they smell :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures of your lavender, Sherry! I have to confess that in all my 59 years of life, I don't recall ever seeing a lavender field and picking fresh lavender. How I'd love to put my nose to it and take a deep breath...I have some organic beeswax lip gloss that has lavender in it and I love it.
ReplyDeleteI entered you in my contest. Thanks for stopping by today. Have a nice evening :-)
