A little over a week ago I was busy with my sewing machine, adding a bright pink border to the bottom of 5 black bridesmaid dresses. During this process my sewing machine began to behave very strangely. My husband who understands things mechanical was able to make a few adjustments and the machine worked better than it had for some time. I completed the dresses and they looked great on the girls and the wedding was lovely.
Last week I was sewing some aprons and had plans to sew some tote bags to sell at a friends sale. As I sewed madly in order to finish them in time for the sale a very important piece of the inside of my sewing machine broke off. What to do now? I went upstairs and pulled out my old machine with many many miles of sewing in its past. It seemed to be working pretty good for a machine of its advanced age.
I have had this machine since 1979 and couldn't even imagine how much sewing I have done on it.
After work one day last week I came home and began sewing aprons on my old machine. I had almost completed one when I looked up and noticed a sewing machine directly across the table from where I was sitting. The table was a mess with thread, fabric, bobbins, I had not been neat in my sewing machine frustration. I got up and walked to the other side of the table and found this!
A brand new Brother sewing machine.
Picked out and purchased by my husband and waiting for me so that I could get my aprons made. It is a great machine and I am so excited. I have already made 3 aprons on it and it is so quiet and has a perfect stitch. I am off on Friday this week so my husband signed me up for a class so that I can learn about all of the wonderful things I can do with my new machine.
I am off to a good start using this great machine
I am grateful for a thoughtful husband who would take the time to go to a sewing machine shop, talk to the salesperson about what kind of sewing I like to do and buy me a machine that suits my needs perfectly.
I am also grateful that he had the means to do this for me.
Do I go out of my way to do kind things for him?
I think I should ask myself that question more often.
I am so grateful for this blessing and this sewing machine and I will have some fun together, I just know it.

That is wonderful, and for him to even think of classes!...Enjoy your new baby!
ReplyDeleteWow! What a wonderful gift...and isn't it so true that the thought is so much more special than the gift itself! Have fun at the class.
ReplyDeleteOh yes ~ I love the pink apron. Is that a bit of vintage stitchery you used for the pocket!?
I seriously had tears throughout that entire post {shocker...I know}.
ReplyDeleteIs that the Innov.IS 80?
I've been researching that one, and hoping to get it before they stop selling it {isn't it a limited edition}?
I'm so excited for you :)
And I'm dying to see the aprons you made. They look stunning.
I LOVE you guys so much.
That is so sweet. The aprons look beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet post! You do have a keeper! I have to say I do too. My DH went in the sewing store and paid for my 2nd emb. machine, and then told me they'd call me when it came in. (I traded up.)
ReplyDeleteThe aprons are lovely, and I'm glad you got to finish your projects. It never hurts to have a good ole' standby.
Hi Sherry,
ReplyDeleteWhat a guy- don't let him get away!! He sounds like he's really thoughtful and understanding, and what a surprise to find that machine just waiting for you. Lovely!
Thanks for linking up this week. I love happy stories!

Oh, oh, how cool! Praise God for husbands that have so much foresight. This is so much fun, because he thought of you before you needed anything. Sounds like someone else I know- God! HE always knows what we need before we need it. What a great post. Thanks for sharing. Happy sewing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet hubby! Glad you are enjoying your new sewing machine. Have fun making all kinds of neat stuff. :)
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun post! What a thoughtful suprise to find waiting for you. I especially like how he signed you up for the class so you can learn all about your new machine.....so considerate of him to do that too!!! I hope you enjoy the class tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteOnly your best friend could pick out the perfect machine for you (and surprise you too!). What a blessing to be married to your best friend.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Terri
(how exciting, a new sewing machine...whoo hoooo!)
What a sweet surprise from your dear hubby!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your nice comment on my tablescape!
Katherine
P.S. - the aprons are very pretty! The pictures hadn't loaded when I left the first comment. For some reason it took a very long time for everything to load!

Hi Sherry~ I love this post~ your husband is a sweetheart! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and for your nice comments~ I'm a new follower!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful considerate gift. I know you'll enjoy it doubly - both because of improvement in functionality and the sweet thoughts behind the present.
ReplyDeleteNow that, to me, is true love. You are both blessed to have that kind of love for each other.

You're very talented! Sounds like you have a very loving and thoughtful husband, too.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, Sherry! He is so thoughtful and sweet, your hubby! That is a wonderful story and I had to smile when I read how you came around the front and realized it was a brand new machine. I think it's great that you can go find out about it rather than reading a book. Sometimes it is easier to learn about things when someone shows you, especially when there is some kind of technology involved. : ) BTW, your aprons look fabulous!
ReplyDeleteSherry! How fun is this? I just read this post and laughed considering I was talking to you last night about Kyle buying me one for my birthday and wanting to take a class!!
ReplyDeleteLet me know what classes you sign up for - I may decide to join you!!
Alyssa
Mom, my wife only wishes that some of that thoughtfulness had rubbed off on me. Love you. Nathan
